01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Along a quiet street in Kagurazaka, Soba no Zen Takasago hangs its noren curtain, serving dedicated juwari soba crafted through an entire in-house process from prepping unhulled buckwheat to milling. Carrying forward a heritage rooted in the Meiji era, the restaurant provides a calm, refined interior where guests can settle in to appreciate the aroma and smooth texture of the noodles.
Chilled Seiro Soba and Crisp Seasonal Tempura
The anchor of the menu is seiro, offering a direct taste of the neatly cut strands and firm, pleasant chew characteristic of 100% buckwheat noodles. Dishes such as ume-ten seiro—served with dipping sauce fine-tuned in salinity and richness according to the season—and prawn tempura seiro bring a crisp contrast between freshly fried tempura and chilled noodles. For a heartier meal, kamo seiro and kamo zaru seiro allow diners to dip their noodles into broth enriched with the deep, savory flavor of duck.
Warming Dashi Broths and Appetizers to Accompany Drinks
Warm selections include tamagotoji soba with its layer of fluffy beaten egg, hanamaki soba scented with seaweed, and comforting kamo nanban soba, all served in dashi broth that warms from the inside out. Before the soba arrives, sampling classic soba-mae small dishes like thick atsuyaki tamago omelet, fragrant grilled kamo-yaki duck, itawasa fish cake, or sweet-simmered nishin kanroni pairs naturally with sake such as Jokigen Kaga no Yuki or a warm sobayuwari buckwheat-water blend.
Both lunch and dinner feature kaiseki-style course options, including the chef's omakase and Soba no Zen menus, making the venue practical for hosted meals and gatherings. Supported by attentive table service in an unhurried setting, the dining room accommodates everything from a quiet solo lunch over soba to an evening spent lingering over drinks and shared dishes.
